Opening Narration: A Path Forward
Standard Version
The Empire manages to prevail over the Kingdom and Central Church's coalition—despite the Alliance's declaration of war—but Archbishop Rhea is nowhere to be found. Edelgard and the others soon realize the archbishop aims to use Ailell's secret trails to lead a surprise attack on Garreg Mach, so the Empire regroups and moves to intervene.
Alternate Path
The Empire manages to prevail over the Kingdom and Central Church's coalition—but Archbishop Rhea is nowhere to be found. Edelgard and the others soon realize the archbishop aims to use Ailell's secret trails to lead a surprise attack on Garreg Mach, so the Empire regroups and moves to intervene.
Event: The Imperiled Bishop
Garreg Mach Monastery
(A Southern Church monk enters the cathedral to deliver a message to Count Varley.)
- Monk: Dire news, my lord!
- Count Varley: Huh? What now? What's happened? Another fire? Has a horse escaped? Don't tell me it's an assassin! Where's the body?
- Monk: Uh, no, my lord. Worse. There's a legion of soldiers closing in on Garreg Mach. We think it's the Knights of Seiros.
- Count Varley: Gah! But...we're safe in here, yes? My life is of great military importance, you know! Protect me! Put those troops Her Majesty sent to use!
(Baron Barnabas enters.)
- Baron Barnabas: Count Varley, the enemy is inside the monastery! We couldn't hold them back!
- Count Varley: But these walls are thick! How did they breach them?!
- Baron Barnabas: The walls yet stand, my lord. But it appears they have made use of a number of unknown secret passages. Now they're inside and wreaking havoc, and it's only a matter of time before the monastery falls! We have the numbers to stop them, but that matters little if we don't know where they actually are.
- Monk: We must flee, my lord! All hope is lost!
(An Imperial general enters with a third message.)
- Imperial General: Urgent news, my lord!
- Count Varley: Spare my life, I beg you!
- Imperial General: An unknown army has appeared and started attacking the Knights of Seiros!
- Count Varley: Her Majesty's reinforcements!
- Imperial General: Doubtful, my lord—this army wields large-scale magic and is also attacking the Imperial forces. The battlefield is sheer chaos—it's impossible to tell friend from foe!
- Count Varley: What in the blazes is happening?!
Event: The Enemy of My Enemy Is My Enemy
Village at the Monastery's Base
(On one side of the village, Thales talks to Myson to prepare an attack on the monastery.)
- Thales: Church or Empire, I care not. Eradicate them all. Engulf them in our darkness.
- Myson: It will be done. At last we can finally give the foolish descendants of those beasts the lesson they deserve. We will expose their filthy underground resting place and steal every last one of their essences...
- Thales: If we can breach it. The hole in the forest that the bandits raided was secured with a seal.
- Myson: Shall we deal with it after we take the monastery? We'll tear this disgusting rat's nest apart.
(On the other side of the village, Catherine and Rhea notice Thales' army approaching.)
- Catherine: Lady Rhea, who are these people? They're attacking both sides indiscriminately!
- Rhea: A clandestine organization that wields dark magic... Could it be? Have they returned to seek vengeance on Fódlan? But why show their hand now? Deal with them, Catherine. Not a single one of them can survive. They pose a far greater threat to our world than the Empire.
- Catherine: Yes, Lady Rhea! Make way for Thunder Catherine! Clear a path or die!
Event: Into the Fray
Imperial Army Camp, Garreg Mach Mountains
- Hubert: And that appears to be the current situation.
- Monica: The Knights of Seiros are one thing. We came prepared to deal with them, and we can do so. But now you say those who slither in the dark have turned this into a three-way battle? Why?
- Hubert: I am as baffled as you regarding a possible motive. Perhaps it was vital they seize the monastery before we could get here. If they knew we were engaged in a lengthy fight at Ailell, they might have seen this as their chance.
- Edelgard: Well, they saved Count Varley's life either way. So be it. We will use this situation to our advantage and conduct a rescue. We can't afford to lose Garreg Mach or Count Varley. With one battle, we'll destroy the Central Church and put an end to those who slither in the dark.
- Bernadetta: It's strange... I stopped caring about my father a long time ago, but the thought that he might die is... It's...
- Petra: He is not dead yet, Bernadetta. Unless you intend to be leaving him to his fates?
- Bernadetta: No. No, of course not! I'm going to save him!
- Linhardt: If we're sloppy about this, we'll get dragged into the ongoing battle and suffer heavy losses. I would prefer to make this as easy for ourselves as we can. Let's find out what's going on in there, then look for the safest way in.
- Monica: I can tell you one thing—if Lord Arundel is here, I will choke the life out of him personally. I'll even let you watch, Your Majesty!
- Edelgard: Yes, just...try not to overdo it.
- Hubert: If that is settled, we will accomplish nothing more by brooding down here.
- Edelgard: Agreed. We'll begin the attack as soon as our preparations are complete.
Camp
Northern Garreg Mach
(On arrival, if the player completed "Into the Chasm")
- Shez: I can't hear Arval anymore...
(If Shez hasn't given the Merc Whistle to anyone)
- Shez: Everything's coming to a head. I've got a feeling this next battle will be the final one. I oughta give this Merc Whistle to someone while I've still got the chance.
Edelgard
(If the player completed "A Clash of Ambitions")
Finally.
- Edelgard: We are truly nearing the end. What do you think you will do after all of this? Personally, I hope that you will continue to support the Empire...or, well, me. You need not decide immediately. But would you tell me when the time comes?
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
I am relieved.
- Edelgard: I am so relieved we did not lose you too, Shez. Though I fear Hubert's confidence in you is probably shattered.
- Choice 1: Show understanding.
- Shez: I understand. I did attack one of my allies, after all.
- Edelgard: Your ability to take things in stride is impressive. Hubert would approve of such an attitude as well.
- Choice 2: Express disappointment. (Support points up with Edelgard)
- Shez: Ugh, and just when I'd finally gotten him to trust me.
- Edelgard: Are you certain of that? I cannot speak definitively on his feelings in the matter. But knowing Hubert, he would likely say that he never had much trust for you to shatter in the first place.
- Choice 1: Show understanding.
Hubert
(If the player completed "A Clash of Ambitions")
Hmph..
- Hubert: Hmph. We never did obtain any clues as to your real identity. But if Thales appears at Garreg Mach and we succeed in killing him, it will spell the end of their ilk once and for all. The question is, would you truly find such a conclusion satisfactory?
- Choice 1: Say you have no problem with it.
- Shez: Sure. What do I care? I'm good with how I am now.
- Hubert: Quite a bold statement. If only our pasts could always be dealt with so easily.
- Choice 2: Say you wouldn't be satisfied. (Support with Hubert goes up)
- Shez: If I'm being honest, I don't think I would. I still don't know anything about myself.
- Hubert: Most understandable. I would find it an unfortunate loss as well.
- Choice 1: Say you have no problem with it.
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
I'd rather not let you live.
- Hubert: Every bit of my good sense says I should kill you. But after weighing the pros and cons, I have decided to wait and see. In the meantime, let us hope you prove to me your worth. For both my sake, and yours.
Ferdinand
This will be an arduous battle.
- Ferdinand: Garreg Mach is ours and so too is the work of defending it. Unfortunately, our opponents are far more familiar with the monastery than we are. This will be a most arduous battle.
- Choice 1: Assure him it'll be fine.
- Shez: We've got this. We're fully prepared to stop them.
- Ferdinand: Yes, you are right. Perhaps I was underestimating your abilities.
- Choice 2: Express concern too. (Support points up with Ferdinand)
- Shez: Yeah, it's gonna be brutal. I hope we can pull through.
- Ferdinand: I am surprised that you of all people would be worried. Do be careful not to underestimate us too much.
- Choice 1: Assure him it'll be fine.
- Ferdinand: Let us meet them head-on! I, Ferdinand von Aegir, shall ensure our victory!
Linhardt
Utterly atrocious.
- Linhardt: These marches over every hill and dale in this weather have been ruthless. It's difficult enough to walk, let alone fight battles. Everything has been utterly insufferable. Though I suppose that's to be expected in a war.
- Choice 1: Press him on that. (Support points up with Linhardt)
- Shez: Do you seriously think marching's all that bad? Well, whatever I guess.
- Choice 2: Agree, walking's the worst.
- Shez: You said it. We've been marching our feet off lately.
- Choice 1: Press him on that. (Support points up with Linhardt)
- Shez: At least when the war's over we won't have to travel around as much.
- Linhardt: I certainly hope so. I wouldn't mind the exhaustion if I were on a research trip, but this is ridiculous.
Caspar
The war's mostly behind us.
- Caspar: Most of this war is behind us, which means fewer chances to make a name for myself. I need to pull out all the stops in the next battle, or you're gonna leave me in the dust. Seriously though, I've got your back if you've got mine, Shez!
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
- Shez: Are you sure that's what you want?
- Caspar: What's the problem? If you can't keep up, I'll leave you behind!
Bernadetta
It's so weird.
- Bernadetta: It feels so weird that we're going to help my father. Not that I'm against it. I can't wait to see him cry!
- Choice 1: Encourage her. (Support points up with Bernadetta)
- Shez: That's the spirit! Teach him a lesson! Not that I know what for...but yeah!
- Bernadetta: Yeah! I can do this!
- Choice 2: Prioritize his safety.
- Shez: I understand how you feel, but him dying won't make things any better for you. We need to make sure he's safe first.
- Bernadetta: I... I guess you're right.
- Choice 1: Encourage her. (Support points up with Bernadetta)
Dorothea
I'll never forget it.
- Dorothea: The Valley of Torment lived up to its name. All those people crammed into that narrow ravine... I'll never forget the sight of it for as long as I live. No matter how much I wish I could scrub it out. Ugh, I need to think about something else. What's next? Are we all ready to go?
Petra
I can be holding my head high.
- Petra: When I am returning to Brigid, I can be holding my head high. Because I am thinking our relationship with the Empire will be fine now. I hope someday more people will be going between Brigid and Fódlan.
Monica
Hey, listen.
- Monica: Listen, there's a chance Lord Arundel may finally make an appearance. You know, the man responsible for putting Her Majesty through so much pain. He must not be allowed to cause any more trouble for her. Therefore, you and I are going to end him.
- Choice 1: Agree wholeheartedly. (Support points up with Monica)
- Shez: Got it. We'll make sure he doesn't get anywhere near Edelgard.
- Monica: Not unless Her Majesty wants him close! If she wishes to confront him herself, then we must not interfere.
- Shez: Oh, uh...right.
- Choice 2: Suggest he might not show up.
- Shez: OK, but I doubt he'll even show his face.
- Monica: Then don't come crying to me when he catches you off guard. I'll be counting on you if the time comes!
- Choice 1: Agree wholeheartedly. (Support points up with Monica)
Ashe
I wonder if I'll ever figure it out.
- Ashe: I've been thinking about what justice really means ever since I left Faerghus. And I still haven't figured it out. I wonder if I ever will.
- Choice 1: Assure him he will. (Support points up with Ashe)
- Shez: You'll work out what it means to you someday, even if it's a struggle now.
- Ashe: Thanks, Shez.
- Choice 2: Express doubt.
- Shez: Maybe you won't. Maybe justice doesn't mean one thing to you.
- Ashe: Even if that's true, I'm still going to try to figure it out. I need to know why I'm following this path.
- Choice 1: Assure him he will. (Support points up with Ashe)
Mercedes
They were incredible.
- Mercedes: Ingrid and Sylvain were both dear friends to me. They fought so bravely to protect what they believed in. I'm...not sure I could ever do that, myself. That's why I think they were incredible.
Lorenz
(If the player completed "A Clash of Ambitions")
What is to become of me?
- Lorenz: I suspected a rift would eventually occur, but I did not predict Claude would betray us so soon. What is to become of me? I am loyal to the Empire, but my territory is in Leicester. I may be forever mired in this predicament if the Empire fails to unify Fódlan.
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
I hope they emerge victorious.
- Lorenz: The Alliance is pursuing the Kingdom army. I only hope they emerge victorious.
- Choice 1: Ask if he's worried about the Alliance. (Support points up with Lorenz)
- Shez: Let me guess, you're worried about your old buddies?
- Lorenz: Yes. They are completely lost without me, you see.
- Choice 2: Ask if he wanted to return to the Alliance.
- Shez: So what, you wanna go back to them now?
- Lorenz: No, but I am concerned about how they'll get by without me.
- Choice 1: Ask if he's worried about the Alliance. (Support points up with Lorenz)
Raphael
I just don't agree.
- Raphael: I know it's kinda late to bring this up, but I don't agree with how we've been fighting. You must feel the same way, right? C'mon, you can tell me.
- Choice 1: Agree with him. (Support with Raphael goes up)
- Shez: Yeah, I'm not a fan. We don't exactly show mercy to our enemies.
- Raphael: Maybe...but it's not like we're the only ones doing that. That's just war, you know?
- Choice 2: Disagree with him.
- Shez: I dunno about that. I feel like everyone here accepts me for who I am. What more could I really ask for?
- Raphael: Nah, people'll take a strong fighter like you in wherever you go. That's not what I'm talking about.
- Choice 1: Agree with him. (Support with Raphael goes up)
- Shez: Then what do you have a problem with?
- Raphael: We fight all day, but never get to party! Edelgard just doesn't get it.
Ignatz
I feel it's my duty.
- Ignatz: I think this battle is going to mark a major turning point in Fódlan's history. It's overwhelming to think that I'll be a part of that. If I survive, I want to paint a picture of the battle. I feel like somehow it's my duty to do so.
Lysithea
They won't slip through my fingers!
- Lysithea: If those who slither in the dark are trying to wipe out the emperor and the archbishop at the same time... Then we have to win, no matter what. We should also expect their leader to show up. The problem is, I won't be able to get the information I need during a chaotic fight. Which means I'll simply have to subdue them. They won't slip through my fingers!
Marianne
I want to fight alongside everyone.
- Marianne: I've cut off contact with my adoptive father for now, but I believe I will return home someday. So I want to fight as hard as I can alongside all of you while I'm here. This will be a significant battle for Fódlan's future, after all.
Leonie
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
What about you?
- Leonie: I always thought a mercenary just had to do exactly what their employer said. But I still find myself wondering what my reasons are for fighting, or what'll happen to my allies if we lose. What about you? Do you ever think about that stuff? Or do you just focus on fighting?
- Choice 1: Say you think about it.
- Shez: Yeah, I think about it. Especially now that I have my own troops.
- Leonie: Huh... Well, it's good to know I'm not the only one. OK, I feel like I can see this fight through now.
- Choice 2: Say you focus on fighting. (Support points up with Leonie)
- Shez: I focus solely on fighting when I'm in battle. Letting my mind wander could leave me open to the enemy.
- Leonie: Huh... Yeah, that's true. OK, I'm gonna concentrate on my fighting too!
- Choice 1: Say you think about it.
Yuri
I suppose we have no choice.
- Yuri: The Minister of Religious Affairs... Oh right, he's a bishop now. In any case, Count Varley is currently holed up in Garreg Mach, right? Personally, I'd live to hear him cry like a stuck pig. But I suppose with the way things are, we have no choice but to rescue him.
- Choice 1: Ask what happened between them.
- Shez: Did something happen between you two? I had no idea you even knew each other.
- Yuri: He put me through a great deal of pain a long time ago. It was my own fault, but still.
- Choice 2: Tell him to abandon that fantasy.
- Shez: Give it up. If Garreg Mach fell, everything we've fought for would be meaningless.
- Yuri: Yes, I am well aware. I know how to separate my personal feelings from my work.
- Choice 1: Ask what happened between them.
- Yuri: I just can't believe there wasn't anyone else more suited to act as the Southern Church's bishop. As a believer, I have more than a few reservations about someone like him heading the church. I hope all our great leaders will take that into consideration after the war.
Balthus
I've got a feeling.
- Balthus: We might have more fighting to do after this, but I've got a feeling... This next battle's gonna determine Fódlan's future. You should probably start thinking about your next steps. Y'know, what you're gonna do once the fighting's over.
Constance
Do you have need of me?
- Constance: Do you have need of me? Perhaps you wish me to aid you at Garreg Mach? Feel free to use me as a decoy, or make me pretend to surrender, or have me sabotage them from underground. I care not what I do.
- Choice 1: Refuse.
- Shez: Nobody's gonna ask you to do anything like that. We just want you to fight with us normally.
- Constance: Is that so? Well, I am your pawn to do with as you wish.
- Choice 2: Comment on her suggestion. (Support points up with Constance)
- Shez: Wait, sabotage? Are you plotting something?
- Constance: Not really. I just have a talent for destruction, after all my failed experiments.
- Choice 1: Refuse.
Hapi
Is it really that important?
- Hapi: Garreg Mach's smack dab in the middle of Fódlan, right? I know it's got historical significance, but is it really worth sacrificing so many lives over?
- Choice 1: Suggest it has hidden secrets. (Support points up with Hapi)
- Shez: It's a huge building, probably with some crazy catacombs underneath. Who knows what kind of secrets might be hiding down there.
- Hapi: You think so too, huh? There definitely were some suspicious passages beneath the monastery.
- Choice 2: Say it's sacred ground.
- Shez: It's a holy site, and the church has their believers to consider. They can't afford to lose it.
- Hapi: Couldn't they just give up and build a monastery somewhere else? Though I guess that's easier said than done.
- Choice 1: Suggest it has hidden secrets. (Support points up with Hapi)
Manuela
I never found that special someone.
- Manuela: All I've done is fight for more than two years. I've hardly had an opportunity to find that special someone. And now here we are...
- Choice 1: Sympathize with her. (Support points up with Manuela)
- Shez: Sorry. People must be blind if they're turning a blind eye to your charm.
- Manuela: You're the only one who recognizes it at all. What a cruel world.
- Choice 2: Say you're in the same boat.
- Shez: Yeah, same here... Er, nevermind.
- Manuela: Yes, I would appreciate it if you didn't compare yourself to me when you still have so many years ahead of you.
- Choice 1: Sympathize with her. (Support points up with Manuela)
Jeritza
I will finally crush them.
- Jeritza: At last, we will finally annihilate those who slither in the dark. There were times I had to fight alongside them after the emperor hired me. But they truly make my blood boil. I will crush them like the insects they are. I warn you. Do not get in my way.
Shamir
Keep a close eye on her.
- Shamir: The Knights of Seiros weren't out in full force at Ailell. The rest of them must've been on their way to Garreg Mach. Keep a close eye on the emperor. They'll try anything.
Byleth
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
I'm glad you weren't hurt.
- Byleth: I'm glad you and Edelgard made it back unharmed. I was so confused when you got caught in that strange magic and vanished.
- Choice 1: Apologize for attacking him/her.
- Shez: Yeah, about that. I'm really sorry. I can't believe I attacked you.
- Byleth: Don't worry about it. I know you weren't in control of yourself.
- Choice 2: Thank him/her for not killing you. (Support points up with Byleth)
- Shez: Thanks for not cutting me down even though I attacked you.
- Byleth: You didn't seem to be in control of yourself. And I couldn't just kill an ally.
- Choice 1: Apologize for attacking him/her.
Jeralt
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
It's concerning.
- Jeralt: Hey, you know know anything about when you were born, right? Hope nothing weird happened to you back then. Though...I have my concerns.
- Choice 1: Say you don't know. (Support points up with Jeralt)
- Shez: I don't remember anything prior to my mom finding me. Not where I was, or what I was doing. Nothing. So I have no idea what happened to me in the past.
- Jeralt: Well, that's not just you. No one can remember things from when they were that young. If there was only a way we could find out more.
- Choice 2: Say you aren't worried about it.
- Shez: I'm not worried about it. It might be hard to believe, but I feel completely normal right now.
- Jeralt: You really expect me to buy that? If there was only a way we could find out more...
- Choice 1: Say you don't know. (Support points up with Jeralt)
Alois
(If the player completed "The Hour of Vengeance" and "Into the Chasm")
Good luck out there.
- Alois: Garreg Mach has many tunnels that lead outside the mountains, and plenty of secret passages that we don't even know about. Needless to say, Lady Rhea knows the layout of the monastery like the back of her hand. Add in another enemy force and who knows what might happen? We better make sure we're fully prepared. Good luck out there, Shez!
Gatekeeper
Would you find out for me?
- Gatekeeper: Greetings, Commander! Nothing to report! I wonder who's guarding my old gate now. I'm dying to know, but I can't leave my post to join the rescue. Would you drop by and find out for me? Pleeease?
Anna
Garreg Mach...
- Anna: A struggle at Garreg Mach... Hmm. Oh, sorry, just thinking out loud. It might surprise you, but I used to do tons of business there a long time ago. So I used to see people from the Central Church all the time. That's all.
Arval
(If the player completed "A Clash of Ambitions")
- Arval: We have nothing more to fear, Shez. No matter who or what you face, we will be able to save this world. Now, let us be off. We shall fight till the bitter end.
Fleche
(If the player completed "A Clash of Ambitions")
Thank you so much!
- Fleche: I heard that you avenged Randolph, so I rushed over as fast as I could. Thank you. I am certain he will rest peacefully now. But... I was so focused on getting revenge, I have no idea what to do with myself now.
Mercenary next to the Command Center
I called it.
- Mercenary: Yep, I called it. I knew you were going places. Now I can just follow your lead and try not to get killed. You know what they say. The better things're goin', the more arrows come your way.
Imperial Soldier behind the Command Center
My sincerest apologies.
- Imperial Soldier: My sincerest apologies for not noticing the archbishop's movements. By the time I realized what was happening, her forces were already marching on Garreg Mach. But at least they were hindered somewhat when that third force arrived and caused so much confusion. It was helpful, in a way.
Priest in the Chapel
I do hope he's all right.
- Priest: I do hope the bishop is all right. If perchance he were to pass away, I wonder who would take his place in the Southern Church. No, no, that is most inappropriate to say. Right now we must focus on rescuing him!
Imperial Soldier at the Marketplace
Let's get a move on!
- Imperial Soldier: Let's get a move on, Commander! I've got friends defending Garreg Mach! I don't care if we're squaring off with those awful dark mages or the Knights of Seiros. We're definitely gonna win! Right?!
Mage by the campfire
According to my fortunes...
- Mage: Death shall not come for you in this battle. The stars have decreed it. Thought they do get things wrong sometimes. At the very least, you should steer clear of bridges. It would appear you are in danger of falling.
Imperial Soldier in the Watchtower
Not much has changed at all.
- Imperial Soldier: I was actually born in the town underneath Garreg Mach. I was worried when the Empire first took over, but... Day-to-day life hardly changed there at all. If anything, i hear business has picked up. Not that it affects me.
Imperial General by the Supply Master
I don't have the guts.
- Imperial General: I honestly don't know if I have the guts to turn my sword against the archbishop—er, I mean, Rhea. But if those are my orders, then I must carry out my duty as an Imperial general. I just really hope we don't get hit with some kinda divine retribution for capturing or killing her.
Imperial Soldier near the Central Plaza
Baron Barnabas is in charge of Garreg Mach.
- Imperial General: Baron Barnabas, the general in charge of Garreg Mach, is an upstanding, amiable fellow. He would defend the monastery with his life if it came to it. But we must make sure that doesn't happen. The Empire would also suffer a grave loss were he to die.
Imperial General in the Command Center
(If the player completed "A Clash of Ambitions")
I didn't see that coming.
- Imperial General: I never expected the Alliance to break our pact and attack us. I know their leader Claude is a bit of a schemer, but I didn't think he was the type to make a reckless gamble. What could've driven him to do that?
(If the player completed "Torment of the Eagle and Lion")
It's such a relief.
- Imperial General: I'm so relieved the Alliance hasn't done anything suspicious. Their leader Claude is noted for his schemes. It is not out of the realm of possibility he would try something. But with all our forces gathered like this, I don't think there's any cause for concern. Unless something drastic happens.
Event: The Final Battle (Scarlet Blaze)
- Edelgard: Thankfully, we're not too late. Count Varley is still holding strong. If the reports can be trusted, Rhea is here, and so is a mage that fits the description of Arundel—which is to say, Thales. That puts our two biggest adversaries in one place. We should deal with them here and now. I suppose this is a fateful battle for you as well.
- Shez: Yeah. I know my power came from those slithering jerks, and I know they tried to manipulate me. But I still have so many questions about... Well, everything else. And this might be my last chance to get some answers.
- Edelgard: I hope you do, or else Hubert might spend the rest of his life distrusting you. After what happened in Ailell, he suggested "disposing" of you again.
- Shez: Not my favorite plan, to be honest. Looks like I'm gonna have to use this fight to clear my name.
- Edelgard: Indeed. I look forward to it. But just so you know, you've already proven that a dozen times over.
- Shez: Then I'm still a few dozen short. I gotta show you what the mercenary spirit's all about.
- Edelgard: This is my first time hearing of such spirit, but I'm eager to see it in action. Enough idle chatter, though. Everyone is in place. It's time to commence the final battle.
- Choice 1: Psyche yourself up.
- Shez: We're gonna win. For you, for me, for all of us... And for a new Fódlan. One that'll go down in the history books as the best ever!
- Choice 2: Keep it casual.
- Shez: We'll all greet the new dawn together. See you after the dust settles.
- Edelgard: Is that another mercenary expression of yours? Come. Let's make sure we all survive to see Fódlan's rebirth.
- Choice 1: Psyche yourself up.
Battle: The Defense of Garreg Mach: Part 1
(At the start of battle)
- Edelgard: It seems Rhea and Thales have both breached the monastery. And for the sake of Fódlan's future, we will make it their tomb!
(Hubert notices Walls of Darkness separating the lower and middle areas of Garreg Mach.)
- Hubert: The barriers conjured by the enemy will hinder the movement of our troops.
- Edelgard: Then we've no choice but to proceed in two groups. Take care that neither one is wiped out.
- Count Varley: Where are the reinforcements? No! I don't want to die!
- Hubert: We should rescue Count Varley if at all possible. It will not be easy to find another man to wear the miter.
(Monica points to a cracked wall near the Middle Stronghold.)
- Monica: There's a structural weakness in that wall. A heavily armored unit might be able to break through and expedite the rescue.
(When a unit breaks the wall to the Middle Stronghold)
- Edelgard: A new path has been cleared. Let's take it.
- Church Soldier: They've broken through the walls? No! Send reinforcements at once!
(When a unit reaches Count Varley)
- Count Varley: I am the bishop of the Southern Church, and you are obligated to protect me! Now do so and be quick about it!
- Church Soldier: The Southern Church's bishop is an enemy of the goddess and must be destroyed!
- Ferdinand: They employ magic to attack Count Varley from below. That cannot be good.
(When Edelgard encounters Count Varley)
- Count Varley: You honor your humble servant with this daring rescue, Your Majesty! What a grand display of sympathy for my plight!
- Edelgard: I suspected you abandoned the monastery just so you might cower here, but I will have your full explanation once time allows.
(When Bernadetta encounters Count Varley)
- Count Varley: I demand that you rescue me right this... Hm? Bernadetta? Oh, I didn't know that you...
- Bernadetta: Um, hello. This is all a bit...unexpected, I guess.
(After defeating the Falcon Knights attacking Count Varley)
- Count Varley: I'm alive... I mean, of course I am! My death would be a crippling blow to the Empire!
- Edelgard: The man is incorrigible. Someone keep an eye on him—we're not out of the woods yet.
- Count Varley: The enemy's wretched mage there has conjured barriers that are hampering my escape. I mean, my ability to fight!
- Hubert: He must be a sorcerer of some repute. Let us smite him and his magic here and now.
(After defeating the Gremories attacking Count Varley)
- Ferdinand: I hope that keeps Count Varley safe.
(When a unit approaches Myson's stronghold)
- Myson: Imperial dogs! Stop interfering and learn your place!
(A group of Agarthan Soldiers ambushes the lower walls unit.)
- Ferdinand: An ambush, is it? I should have known things would not be as simple as they seemed.
- Count Varley: Ah, there is the perfect place to unleash my secret weapon... Let fly the arrows!
(Count Varley orders his Varley Archers to bombard the lower walls with arrows.)
- Agarthan Soldier: Huh? Where are those coming from? Agh!
- Hubert: Goodness me. Who knew the count still had some fight left in him?
- Count Varley: I may be a bishop, but I know when to stay the hand of mercy!
(When a unit encounters Myson)
- (Shez)
- Shez: So, you're with those who slither in the dark? I've got tons of questions for you, but they're gonna have to wait till after I win!
- Myson: Oh? Might you be...
- (Hubert)
- Hubert: You should have stayed in the dark instead of crawling out here to die.
- Myson: I'll not be slain by the likes of you!
- (Anyone else)
- Myson: You are all descendants of the most inconsequential of beasts, and your deaths will fuel our grand ambition.
(When Myson's HP reach <= 50%)
- Myson: You're much stronger than I thought...
(When Myson's HP reach <= 25%)
- Myson: Enough! I am above such games! (warps to the upper monastery walls)
- Edelgard: Where did he go? We need to dispel those barriers at once!
- Ferdinand: If he retreated to the upper floors, I do not see how we can reach him. But there must be some way around the barriers.
- Baron Barnabas: We've received reports of multiple enemy troops appearing out of thin air. Perhaps they have some sort of warping device?
- Hubert: Yes, that certainly sounds likely. We should check every hiding place we can think of. I have seen such warping devices beneath the monastery. They are controlled by a separate mechanism located elsewhere.
- Monica: Then we need to find that, too? Ugh!
- Edelgard: We're already in two groups. Let's continue the search.
- Church Soldier: Use the catapults to crush the rebels below!
- Edelgard: They're attacking from above! We have to stop those catapults!
(When a unit approaches Catherine's stronghold)
- Catherine: Those infernal black walls are preventing me from reaching Lady Rhea! And now the Imperial reinforcements are closing in... Well, I'll just have to go intercept them myself!
(When a unit approaches Catherine)
- (Shamir)
- Catherine: The last time I saw you, you saved my life—but I never thought you'd force me to repay the debt quite like this.
- Shamir: You don't owe me anything, Catherine. If you need to hate me, then hate me.
- (Anyone else)
- Catherine: I don't have any interest in exchanging words with you. You attacked us, and that's all I need to know.
(When Catherine's HP reach <= 50%)
- Catherine: I'll not break while Lady Rhea still needs me!
(When Catherine is defeated)
- Catherine: Lady Rhea... It was my greatest pride...to be your sword...
(After seizing either the Middle Garrison or Middle Passageway)
- Petra: This stronghold is ours. Now there will be no more hurling of the boulders.
(After seizing the Middle Garrison and the Middle Passageway)
- Bernadetta: Stop hurling rocks at us, or I'm gonna... Oh. They stopped. Well, that's nice!
(When a unit finds the warp floor)
- Monica: We've found the device, but it doesn't seem to operate by itself.
(When a unit finds the warp floor controls)
- Hubert: That must be the control device. Try to activate it.
(When a unit activates the warp floor controls)
- Edelgard: Does this mean we can warp now?
- Monica: Let's use the device to go after that dark mage!
(When a unit uses the warp floor)
- Edelgard: Good. The device works.
- Agarthan Soldier: Myson is in danger. Help him!
(The Agarthan soldiers use the ballista and fire orbs to defend Myson.)
- Monica: They're really pulling out all the stops here. We'd better intervene before we take any more casualties.
(When either the Upper Ballista or Upper Fire Orb Station is seized)
- Linhardt: We can't use these ourselves, hm? What a bother.
(When the Upper Ballista and the Upper Fire Orb Station are seized)
- Caspar: That's the last thing that was in our way! Well, except for the other things. Ugh. It never ends.
(When a unit approaches Myson on the upper walls)
- Myson: I will dispose of you vermin myself!
(When Myson's HP reach <= 50% again)
- Myson: I will not be held up by such foul vermin.
(When Myson is defeated)
- Myson: So this is where I expire... I pray you might finish what must be done, Thales.
(Myson's death causes the Walls of Darkness surrounding the monastery to disappear.)
- Monica: The dark barriers have vanished. Now we can rejoin our forces!
- Count Varley: That dark magic has dissipated! Now, I can finally escape... I mean, strategically retreat!
(Cyril appears to guard the Upper Defense Gate.)
- Cyril: I'll fight until my dying breath to protect Lady Rhea!
- Rhea: But Cyril, the wounds you carry... Please be safe.
- Church Soldier: As the goddess is my witness, this is as far as you go!
- Agarthan Soldier: Annihilate them and reclaim all that is ours!
(Both the Church and the Agarthans arrive with reinforcements.)
- Edelgard: Don't stop now! Not when the future we seek is within our grasp!
(When a unit approaches Cyril)
- (Shamir)
- Shamir: What have I told you, Cyril? You know better than to fight when you're hurt like that!
- Cyril: How could you turn on us like this, Shamir?
- (Anyone else)
- Cyril: I'll give you ten times the pain you inflicted on Lady Rhea!
(When Cyril's HP reach <= 50%)
- Cyril: You'll never reach Lady Rhea! I won't let you!
(When Cyril is defeated)
- Cyril: I hope that was enough...to save her...
- Edelgard: The way to the monastery is clear.
Event: To the Cathedral (Scarlet Blaze)
- Edelgard: This is the moment we've been fighting for. Rhea and Thales will be waiting just ahead. It's a boon that the Empire's two greatest enemies are both within striking distance, yet we mustn't forget they are capable of anything. This situation could very quickly become dire.
- Shez: No kidding. We're talking about the heads of the church and those who slither in the dark.
- Hubert: I hope you are all mentally prepared, because once this begins, we cannot afford to waste even a second. Lady Edelgard? We await your command.
- Edelgard: Through some strange twist of fate, we find ourselves capturing Garreg Mach for the second time. Our first victory signaled the start of the war, and today's victory will be a giant step toward ending it. Today—together—we usher in a new era. And at the end of this path lies our future. The time is now! All Imperial forces...advance!
Battle: The Defense of Garreg Mach: Part 2
(The Imperial Army arrives at the Reception Hall of Garreg Mach Monastery, where Thales and a pair of Dark Knights await them.)
- Shez: Come on! Victory's nearly ours!
- Thales: You ignorant fools dare stand against me?
- Edelgard: Your reckoning has come, Thales! Now you will pay for all you did to my father and the Empire!
(If the strategy "Raging Flames" was prepared)
- Hubert: The enemies that remain are undeserving of human mercy. On your command, we will purge them with fire.
(When the strategy "Raging Flames" is used)
- Edelgard: Scarlet flames, consume the old world and bring light to a new age!
- Thales: You would brandish fire at us? We gave you those flames!
(When any unit approaches Thales)
- (Shez)
- Thales: I no longer care who you are. For the sake of my people, you must die!
- Shez: Well you should care...'cause I'm the one who's gonna kill you!
- (Edelgard)
- Thales: Foolish harridan! The land you seek dominion over is drenched in the blood of beasts!
- Edelgard: Fool I may be, but I have plenty of company—my allies and I stand ready to trample you into the dust!
- (Hubert)
- Hubert: I do not usually mix business with pleasure, but this is an exquisite opportunity to sate duty and vengeance both.
- Thales: It is my vengeance you will suffer, beast—and oh, how you have earned it.
- (Monica)
- Thales: It strikes me now that our plans began to unravel the moment you slipped from Kronya's clutches.
- Monica: If you're saying it helped Her Majesty, then there's no better result I could hope for!
(When Thales' HP reach <= 50%)
- Thales: This land will be ours!
(When Thales' HP reach <= 25%)
- Thales: This flesh will never perish by your hand!
(When Thales is defeated)
- Thales: Argh!
- Edelgard: We dispelled the darkness. Now all that remains is Rhea.
(As the Imperial army approaches the Cathedral)
- Edelgard: How fitting that I should settle things with Rhea here in the cathedral.
(As a unit approaches Rhea)
- Rhea: No matter how many years pass, you people will always be little more than fools. Return the land you stole from us!
- (Shez)
- Shez: Sorry, but I'd rather fight you instead.
- Rhea: I will correct the mistake I made when I took you in...by ending your life.
- (Edelgard)
- Rhea: You boast blood of the Hresvelgs and the heart of a traitor. Your sins run deeper than all others.
- Edelgard: I wear my sins proudly, for they are the reason I fight to free Fódlan from the goddess's so-called "judgment!"
- (Shamir)
- Shamir: I owe you a lot, but the debt's been paid. If you expected more, that's on you.
- Rhea: Yes, your debts with me are settled, Shamir. Your actions now, however, remain another story.
(When Rhea's HP reach <= 75%, or no other characters have special dialogue with Rhea, whichever comes first)
- Rhea: You have left me no choice. Watch over me, Mother.
(Movie: Rhea drops her sword on the ground next to her and her eyes glow bright green as she transforms into the Immaculate One.)
- Rhea: So be it. I will crush you where you stand.
- Shez: Rhea can shapeshift, too? But that form...
- Edelgard: Then you are the Immaculate One? So be it! Today we destroy you and secure our future!
(After breaking the Immaculate One's first barrier)
- Hubert: Stay vigilant. There will be no greater folly than to die here after all our struggles.
- Caspar: Just you wait, Father! I'm going to distinguish myself and return home a hero!
- Petra: I am Petra Macneary, queen of Brigid. I honor my pact by fighting with the Empire!
(After breaking the Immaculate One's second barrier)
- Monica: We will prevail today, even if it costs me the life that Her Majesty so graciously saved!
- Dorothea: I pray this fight is the one that ends this wretched war for good!
- Linhardt: Well, I suppose I can allow myself one day of truly giving my all.
(After breaking the Immaculate One's final barrier)
- Edelgard: We will never yield to you, no matter how large or powerful you might be!
- Bernadetta: I'm just going to keep attacking, but you can pretend I'm not here!
- Ferdinand: Onward, to victory and glory!
(Defeating the Immaculate One causes Rhea to revert to her human form.)
- Rhea: I must...prevail... Grant me power!
- Edelgard: She's no longer able to maintain that form. If we act quickly, we can restrain her. Huh?
- Thales: Our vengeance is unending! We must reclaim what was stolen from us!
(Thales reappears as the Imperial army fights the wounded Rhea.)
- Rhea: (to everyone) I will destroy you by my own hand!
- Edelgard: We will surpass you both and move forward!
- Shez: I don't know what the future holds, but we're not gonna stop until we claim it!
- Edelgard: Together, everyone! Let's finish this!
(When Rhea's HP reach <= 50% during the final battle)
- Rhea: This struggle is nothing compared to what we faced in the Red Canyon!
(If Rhea is defeated before Thales)
- Rhea: This is not over! I must carry on for the sake of my mother's fallen comrades!
(When Thales' HP reach <= 50% during the final battle)
- Thales: You loathsome helminth!
(If Thales is defeated before Rhea)
- Thales: You have forced my hand. Whatever the cost, I must see our objective achieved!
Movie: A Smoldering Scarlet Blaze
(After Thales and Rhea are both defeated, the fight is taken to the bridge connecting the monastery and the cathedral, with Edelgard and Shez boxed in by their adversaries from both sides.)
- Thales: Abominable creatures. I will give you the burial you deserve!
(Thales unleashes a huge amount of dark magic to prepare a final attack against everyone in front of him. Edelgard rushes toward Thales, and Rhea fires a large ball of light magic in their direction, prompting Shez to tackle Edelgard to the ground to avoid being hit by it.)
- Shez: Look out!
(Although Rhea's light magic crashes against Thales' large barrier of dark magic, she runs forward to attack him.)
- Rhea: I will not allow you to sully this sacred place!
(Rhea leaps over Shez and Edelgard and launches an attack on Thales from above.)
- Thales: (looking up at Rhea) Then die along with it!
(Thales launches a ball of dark magic to counter Rhea, but Shez throws their sword at Thales' foot, pinning him down and leaving him unable to escape Rhea's assault. As she slices the magic orb with the Sword of Seiros, the resulting explosion appears to incinerate both her and Thales and cause the bridge to collapse.)
- Shez: It's gonna fall!
- Edelgard: This way!
(Shez and Edelgard run back toward the front gate of the cathedral to avoid falling into the ravine. When the dust settles, Rhea and Thales are both gone. Edelgard gets up and peers into the hole caused by the explosion.)
- Edelgard: There's no way they could've survived that.
- Shez: Well then, just one thing left.
(Shez holds out their hand to offer a high-five to Edelgard, just as they did back at the Imperial palace.)
- Edelgard: Must we do this now? (sigh) But I suppose you earned it. Just this once.
(Edelgard smiles and returns Shez's high-five, and the two victors return to the ruined cathedral to celebrate.)
- Edelgard: At last, Fódlan has been freed from that which bound it. Today marks a momentous new chapter in its history. And we shall be its authors.
