Alta (アルタ, Aruta) is a city located in Lycia that originates from the Fire Emblem: Hasha no Tsurugi manga. Situated at the center of the Lycian territories of Tania, Khathelet and Santaruz it occupies a similar position to the territory that was once Caelin. While the original lord who oversaw the city is unknown, the corrupt noble Richten was made the standing lord by the occupying force of Bern.
Hasha no Tsurugi
Alta serves as the first location Al, the protagonist of Hasha no Tsurugi, travels to when setting out on his journey. There he meets an old woman who informs him on the current state of the city. As a result Bern's occupation and their appointment of the cruel Richten, the people have been saddled with heavy taxes in order to fund Bern's war effort. Activity in the city is also minimal, something which Al picks up on quickly after entering and which has effected the old woman's own business.
Dissent or even perceived inconvenience towards Richten or his retinue of knights known as the "Iron Dragon Knights" is understood by the people to be met with execution, with even a small girl nearly meeting such a fate personally by Richten's hands for crossing his path whilst his knights were marching through city.
After a series of events that culminates in Richten's death by way of being crushed by a dragon, Al and a knight forced to work under Richten, Gant, flee the city as they are chased by the city guard. What becomes of Alta after the stories conclusion is unknown but it was presumably folded into the one Kingdom of Lycia as all Lycian territories were and is ultimately ruled by the kingdom's queen Lilina.
Notable characters in Alta
- Richten- Alta's lord appointed by Bern.
- Iron Dragon Knights- Dubbed by the people as the "Grim Reapers of the battlefield" they serve Richten personally and are known to travel to different citys, razing them
Trivia
- Due to the lack of any mention of a marquess it is unclear if Alta is itself a larger territory similar to Pherae or if the city of Alta is settlement that is part of another territory. Coincidentally, on the map within the manga that depicts Al's path along his journey, Alta is shown to be located in the same position as Caelin. However given that the early chapters of Hasha no Tsurugi predate the release of Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, any connection between Alta and Caelin is unlikely to be intentional.
