—In-game description, The Sacred Stones
The Lockpick is an item that appears in several games in the Fire Emblem series, first appearing in Thracia 776, and last in The Sacred Stones.
Overview
Usable only by Thief class characters and their related promotions, lockpicks are expendable items that allow the user to open Doors and Treasure Chests without the aid of either a Door Key or Chest Key.
Lockpicks are rare items. In the games in which they appear, one set always is always present in the inventory of at least the first Thief unit to join the player's force. The only methods of obtaining additional lockpicks are by either purchasing them from Secret Shops in certain chapters, or by stealing them from enemy Thieves.
From Path of Radiance onward, the ability to pick locks is treated as an innate class skill of Thieves, rendering the lockpick item unnecessary from a gameplay perspective.

Trivia
- In The Sacred Stones, while the Lockpick can technically be used by Rogues, they do not necessarily need to wield it due to their native ability to pick locks.
