—Legault to Isadora
Legault is a playable character in Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade. He is a fugitive of the Black Fang who has chosen to abandon the organization and become a Thief instead.
Legault can be recruited by having the main lord (either Eliwood or Hector depending on the mode) or Lyn speak to him. His goal before joining the player is to loot all of the items in the treasure chests in that level and make off with them. He makes a clear dash across the battlefield and can be easily intercepted; he will keep anything he has already looted, so they can be used later.

Profile
Legault had been a member of the Black Fang organization since its inception. He is said to be second in ability to none except the Four Fangs, implying he had earned himself quite a reputation while he was still a member.
Through support conversations with Matthew, his past is slowly revealed as well as his motivation for leaving the Black Fang: According to himself, Legault was able to join the Black Fang because of his nimble agility. He was already known as the Hurricane at the time, and was tasked with "cleaning house", which involved assassinating anyone who betrayed the Black Fang.
Legault admits that his job made him unpopular, though it was not until Sonia's arrival when he began to really consider leaving the organization after noticing that the Black Fang was beginning to crumble from the inside. Along with this, his duty as the cleaner was changed from killing only traitors into targeting anyone who was wounded and could no longer fight competently. The last straw came when he was forced to kill Aesha, a fellow assassin who had received a crippling injury that cut her career short. He appears to deeply regret killing her, and his decision to abandon the organization solidified at that point.
At this point, he appears near the Dragon's Gate on Valor, The Dread Isle with the purpose of plundering the treasure and then escaping. However, he is intercepted by one of the Lords of Lycia, who convince him to join their side and help them with his knowledge of the Black Fang. Subsequently, when the army travels to Bern, he makes another appearance in Chapter 23, where he offers advice to the three lords as they discuss their proceedings, to which Eliwood thanks him. He is seen even if the player did not recruit him in the chapter that he initially appears in.
After the war ends, Legault's fate is unknown, though his normal ending states that Legault traveled about the land looking for other refugees of the Black Fang to ease the pain of his own losses. His paired ending with Isadora, however, implies that eventually he finds himself under Bern's employ.
Personality
While he talks with an aloof attitude confusing those around him, Legault recalls the days as an old member of the group of the Black Fang and how he will never be able to love them again, forming a friendship with the like-minded deserter Heath precisely because of that. His battle conversation with either Lloyd or Linus reveal that he had a close relationship with the Reed family and Uhai.
Hiding his complex feelings for his former comrades deep within his heart, Legault ends up cutting all his ties with Nino by firmly refusing her request to accompany him after the journey ends by telling her that the life he will lead is not meant for someone like her, and that she would only slow him down.
While having the company of similar Black Fang deserters Nino and Jaffar, the thought of inevitably facing his former friends the Reed Brothers as foes is especially hard to bear, even trying to convince either them to lay down their arms when engaging either one of them at the Shrine of Seals.

Legault is the second thief the player receives. Compared to Matthew, Legault joins with better base stats. However, stats aren't really very relevant for Legault or Matthew; their primary use is stealing items and opening doors, not combat. Therefore, Legault's most important lead over Matthew is in Speed, in which Matthew has just 11 at base while Legault has 15. Thieves in The Blazing Blade can Steal items from enemy inventories if they are faster than the enemies, so if Matthew hasn't leveled up and increased his Speed Legault will be an immediate option to replace him. On chapters in which there are no items to steal from enemies and no doors or chests that need opening, it's usually best to let Legault and Matthew hang out on the bench so that better units can do the fighting. Interestingly, in both HNM and HHM, he does not spawn with a Lockpick, though, in Blood Of Pride, Matthew refers to it as the Thief's Best Friend.
If wanting to use Legault as a combat unit, though, he makes a mediocre fighter. Legault's base Strength is 4 points higher than Matthew and only one of them will be able to use the Fell Contract to promote to Assassin, so even though it's not advisable to promote either Legault will make a better Assassin than Matthew. It's worth noting that the Fell Contract is worth 25,000 Gold, though, meaning that if not using it on one of your thieves you can keep it to improve your Funds rank (if playing for ranks) or sell it to buy more items.
As an Assasin, Legault will still be locked to only use swords, meaning he can't get easy access to 1-2 range, and while he gets access to the Silencer skill, this is a small improvement: most other units at this point can OHKO with normal critical hits, and since Silencer's activation rate is 50% of the critical hit rate it's not a reliable way to improve Legault's poor damage output. Assassins can open chests but can't open doors, meaning that promoting actually makes Legault less useful outside of combat, and promoting also means he'll lose the Steal ability. Legault can still contribute if used this way, but it's usually best to just use Jaffar if you want an Assassin and focus on making the most of Legault's Thief utility.

Legault is a former member of the Black Fang assassins. Known as the Hurricane, he would strike at his targets from the shadows!

Legault was a truly accomplished assassin during his time with the Black Fang, and they said that he was second only to the organization's elite, the Four Fangs.

It was his job to put an end to the Black Fang's betrayers, as well as grant a quick death to those who had suffered fatal wounds. And yet despite the difficult responsibilities he was charged with, he remained surprisingly cheerful.

Outside of his duties, he's also a caring man, and he always kept an eye out for his allies Nino and Jaffar. He might make a good mentor to some of the younger Heroes here in Askr!

- Legault: Remember how good the old days were? Your father, old Jan, Uhai, you, and me and your brother. When did the Black Fang lose its honor?
- Linus: Be quiet!!! Stop your pathetic whimpering and fight!!
- Legault: I knew this would happen. Nothing's going to change. I knew it, and yet here I am. I couldn't leave well enough alone... I'm a fool.

Etymology
His Japanese name, Lagarto, means "lizard" in Spanish and Portuguese.
Trivia
- Though he is considered almost as powerful as the Four Fangs and knows most of the Black Fang members, it is said by Legault himself in his supports with Nino that he is only in his twenties, when Nino calls him "Uncle Legault."
- If Legault is promoted to Assassin, he gets a battle sprite similar in style to Jerme's, rather than Matthew and Jaffar's. This is because Jerme and Legault both have long hair, while Matthew and Jaffar have short hair.
- Legault is not the only character in the game to be referred to as "Hurricane". Eubans is also called the "Hurricane", though the two of them are from separate groups.
- Regardless on whether or not you recruited Legault, he will still appear in Chapter 24: Four Fanged Offence, to offer advice to Eliwood.
