Ananke is a character in Fire Emblem Shadows. She's a mercenary working with Notia's Monster Watch and a friend of Rusty but is secretly a servant of Shadow.

Ananke used to be a forest dweller outside of the kingdom of Notia alongside her family and many friends before joining the Kingdom’s Monster Watch, wanting to prove herself as useful and to give her family a better life after the forest died.
One day, the royal family was killed and replaced by a new royal family that caused a severe decline of the kingdom’s condition due to a lack of protection, resulting in her family descending further into poverty. Ananke began taking riskier missions for higher pay in order to provide for her family before joining a rebellion to overthrow the new king alongside her new friend Rusty, but it was short lived as the king’s assassins discovered them and killed them all, leaving Ananke as the only other survivor along with Rusty, but in critical condition. As Ananke lay dying, she is approached by Skoll and Hati, retainers of Fenris, who ask her to make a pact with Fenris in exchange for her survival, and with no other choice, she reluctantly agrees and sinks into shadow and emerges as a servant of Fenris.
6 months later, Skoll tells Ananke to get him into the academy so that he can visit somebody, so that night she leaves the gate unlocked and puts the guards to sleep. She and Skoll meet with his sister Hati, who explain that they were there to make a pact with Rusty due to his connection with the 12 ancient bloodlines, much to Ananke’s surprise, hoping to acquire both his blood and the Sovereign Axe, a weapon that can only be wielded by Notia’s true king. They decide that the best course of action is to kill him before he can find the axe, but Ananke offers to kill him instead, stating that it’s too late for her to be saved and that Rusty being king won’t change anything, so she makes a plan to join the mission, help him find the Sovereign Axe and then kill him after he frees it, so that they have both the axe and his blood, which they agree to.
The next day, Ananke asks Rusty to join his mission to guard the labyrinth, which he agrees to so long as she doesn’t do anything risky, and the two set off before they find a village on fire and go to protect it.
