Talk is a special command in the Fire Emblem series.
Overview
The Talk command allows playable characters to initiate a short conversation with another unit on the battle field. Depending on the context, the target of a Talk command may be another player unit, an Ally or Other Unit, or an Enemy Unit. The command appears in the command menu when a player unit moves adjacent to another unit with whom they may speak. If two player characters are able to have a conversation with each other, it is most often the case that either character may be the one to initiate the conversation with the Talk command.
The Talk command is a common means of recruiting new player units. If a recruitable Ally, Other, or Enemy Unit is approached on the battlefield by an appropriate character and the Talk command is used, that unit will join the player's force and become playable upon the conclusion of the conversation. Recruitment of characters through talking is often performed by the respective game's lead character, but some characters require specific units to talk to them, and in such cases, the games will typically provide hints as to who must speak with them.
In some games, support conversations also take place on the battlefield, and when two characters are eligible to rise in support rank with each other, the Talk command will appear when they are adjacent.
At times, the Talk command is available for characters to speak with each other to provide hints or to provide additional, optional character development or story details.
