—Ronan
Ronan is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. A sixteen-year-old hunter from the village of Iz, he joins the Freeblades of Fiana in an effort to protect his village from raids by the Lifis Pirates.
He can be recruited by any character who visits the northern village, in Chapter 2, but before it is destroyed by the invading pirates.
Profile
Ronan first appears in Chapter 2, where the village of Iz is besieged by Lifis' band of bandits. As the Freeblades of Fiana fights through the invasion, any one of them can visit the uppermost house on the map to meet Ronan. Against his mother's protests, he takes up a bow and joins Leif's effort to defeat the bandits.
Ronan, along with the rest of the Freeblades of Fiana, is later separated from Leif and Eyvel in Chapter 3, as the prince is captured by Raydrik. Along with Osian and Halvan, Ronan later embarks on a quest to Munster, but is captured by Hannibal's patrolling troops when he and his companions are found roaming around Munster Castle. The trio regains their freedom at the end of Chapter 7 on Leif's behest.
Ronan then goes on to continue supporting Leif in his cause to liberate Northern Thracia from the Grannvale Empire. He will return home to his mother in Iz thereafter, where he gets married and lives a happy life.
Personality
Ronan does not get much characterization, but through what little screen-time he gets, it is clear that he is a courageous youth with a strong will and resolve. This can be seen in Chapter 2, where, despite being inexperienced in combat, he is willing to take up arms to protect his home from invading bandits.
His character is further developed in Fire Emblem Heroes. He is polite and friendly, capable of getting along with anyone. A skilled hunter, Ronan enjoys using his talents to make people's lives easier. However, he also believes that humans must coexist with nature, so he never hunts more animals than necessary. Ronan strongly believes in taking action, and always volunteers to do whatever he can to help those in need.
While he lacks faith in the nobility, he seldom shows open hostility. He does not believe nobles are kind-hearted and generous, and doubts they would do much for common people; Leif is the only noble Ronan finds approachable and trustworthy. However, his encounters with nobles in Heroes are positive, lifting his impression of the nobility. Ronan claims that when nobles are righteous and lead by example, commoners like himself are able to do their best.
His mother is the most cherished individual in his life; Ronan seeks her approval, tries to make her proud, and wishes to protect her.

Ronan is an unusual unit, with growths more fitting for a Mage than an Archer. He boasts high Skill, Speed, and a surprisingly high Magic growth, but suffers from low Strength. However, due to Thracia 776's generally weak enemies, his damage output isn't as much of a drawback as it might seem. In fact, several chapters are filled with frail enemies, making Ronan's chip damage decent.
His best training opportunities come from the early-game chapters, where he can gain significant EXP. Chapters 7, 8, 11, and 11x are also solid maps for continued investment. Once promoted, Ronan has a good chance of reaching B Bows, allowing him to wield powerful options like the Brave Bow and Killer Bow. While Crusader Scrolls can patch up his poor Strength growth, they aren't strictly necessary, as his Weapon Level progression compensates for his lower damage output.
A fully built Ronan finds his main niche in the lategame, where he performs exceptionally well on enemy phase against Rewarping Dark Mages in the final chapters. While this is a situational role and not essential in faster playthroughs, it is still a useful niche to have.
Ronan's most unique strength is his superior movement:
- With 7 base Move, he has higher mobility than most infantry from the moment he joins.
- His three Movement Stars give him a 15% chance to take an extra action per turn, further improving his flexibility.
- This makes him surprisingly effective in indoor maps, such as Chapters 8x and 12x, where good movement is valuable.
Even if Ronan isn't a long-term investment, his early-to-midgame movement utility alone can justify deploying him in select chapters.
Ronan is a niche unit with unusual strengths. While his damage output is inconsistent, his early-game chip damage, strong movement utility, and lategame magic tanking give him distinct advantages. While he isn't a top-tier unit, he has enough redeeming qualities to justify his use in certain playthroughs.

Etymology
Ronan's name is an Irish Gaelic made of the word ron, meaning 'oath' or 'seal', along with the suffix making 'little oath' or 'little seal'.
Trivia
- Ronan's lack of dialogue on Lifis' recruitment is odd, considering his shown contempt of the pirate.
