—Basilio in Chapter 23
Basilio is a playable character from Fire Emblem Awakening.
Profile
Basilio is the current West-Khan of Ferox. At some point in his past, he was challenged by Gregor and won the title. At some point, he discovered Lon'qu, whose skills impressed him enough to make him his champion for the tournament for khanship. As a result, Basilio had maintained his position for several years. In addition, he became acquainted with Olivia, a famous dancer throughout the continent. When a noble attempted to kidnap and marry her, Basilio rescued her.
Shortly before the arrival of Chrom and the Shepherds at Ferox at Exalt Emmeryn's request, a mysterious masked warrior going by the name Marth challenged Lon'qu to become the champion of the upcoming tournament to decide the ruling khan. Though Lon'qu nearly had the upper hand, a brief moment of hesitation allowed Marth to defeat him, becoming Basilio's new champion of the tournament.
Ylisse-Plegia War
Chrom arrived at Ferox, gaining an audience with the East-Khan Flavia. During the Ferox tournament, Chrom faced off against Marth and defeated him, resulting in Basilio losing his khanship. Out of admiration for Chrom's skill, he lends Lon'qu to their cause. Basilio follows Chrom and the Shepherds throughout the conflict, providing counsel and fighting alongside the Feroxi support.
After the attempt to rescue Emmeryn fails due to her sacrifice, Basilio drags Chrom away, telling him to escape and preserve the life Emmeryn had sacrificed herself for. After rendezvousing with Olivia at the Midmire, Basilio is able to take the Shepherds back to Ferox to regroup and plan their next course of action. Basilio and the soldiers of Ferox would participate in the final battle against Gangrel and witness the Mad-King's defeat, restoring peace to the realm.
Conquest of Valm
After two years of peace, the first wave of the invasion from the continent of Valm begins with an attack on Port Ferox. With the looming threat of further invasion, Basilio joins Chrom and the Shepherds as they launch their counter campaign on Valm.
After securing Fort Steiger, news arrives that Walhart's forces to the north and Yen'fay's forces to the south are quickly encircling the Shepherds. Robin devises a plan assault one of the two while a smaller force distracts the other. Basilio volunteers to stall the Conqueror; however, Lucina warns him that in her future, Basilio died during that encounter. Undeterred, Basilio still goes; however, Flavia decides to accompany him as backup.
The two Khans and their forces eventually intercept Walhart. The Conqueror's might easily fells most of the small force by himself. Basilio brazenly attacks him and actually manages to put a decent hit on Walhart, earning the Conqueror's respect. However, Walhart strikes back and deals a lethal blow to him. With his grievous injuries, Basilio gives Flavia the gemstone Ferox had been safeguarding, Gules, to deliver to Chrom.
The Shepherds rally themselves when Flavia reconvenes and reports his death, beginning the final assault on Valm Castle and eventually ending the Conqueror's ambitions.

Validar, the succeeding King of Plegia, betrays the Shepherds and steals the Fire Emblem, taking it to the Dragon's Table to begin the ritual that will resurrect Grima. Though it seems that the plan succeeds and Robin is once again possessed as they once were in the future, the predestined sequence of events begins to unravel, especially once Basilio enters the temple, revealing that he had miraculously survived his encounter. Thanks to Lucina's warning, Basilio swallowed his pride and played dead, allowing him to move undetected by the Plegian spies that were tailing the Shepherds throughout the attack on Valm. Additionally, Robin's premonitions gave them insight to complete the subterfuge against Validar and the Grimleal. Back in action, Basilio joins the fray and helps to kill Validar.
Grima's resurrection occurs anyways and Basilio continues to fight for the fate of the world. Eventually, Grima is defeated, and peace is restored to the realms. As the years passed after the fall of the Fell Dragon, Basilio would continue his rivalry with Flavia for the Khanship of Ferox. Though he lost every now and then, he expressed confidence that once baby Lucina was grown, she would be his future champion, even prepping a mask in anticipation.
Personality
Despite his title as ruling Khan of Ferox, Basilio is a rather relaxed individual and lives life boisterously. Brash, confident, and oafish, he is rather infamous in Ferox for sneaking away from the castle during downtime to drink and watch arena fights. By his own admission, he is a heavy drinker, and he states to Walhart in the Hot-Spring Scramble that he is the "Walking Cask of Ferox."
When the situation demands it, Basilio is rather serious and has the courage to take on tasks that some may be afraid to take on. Despite Lucina's dire warning of his fate, he boldly chose to take on the task of stalling Walhart. As such, he states that destiny is meant to be defined by an individual, and he will make it his own way. However, he does admit later that his pride would have led him to recklessly continue the fight against Walhart. He showed himself to be wise enough to swallow it and take the defeat, resulting in him averting his original fate and being able to continue to contribute to the conflict.
Basilio provides wise counsel when needed and is often seen as a father-figure to the Shepherds due to his old age. He is quick to acknowledge the skills of others and is ready to offer help when needed and deserved, offering his finest champion Lon'qu to the Shepherds' cause after losing his khanship in the tournament. Basilio also has the backing skills to retain his title as Lon'qu respects him above all others, and Gregor mentions that he fought Basilio for the title of Khan and lost. Even Walhart acknowledges his mettle and deemed worthy enough to be challenged.
He has the quickest reflexes and biggest reactions in the army.

Base Class
Like his fellow East-Khan, Basilio starts as a Promoted unit. His recruitment base stats are a great starting point and make him a good replacement for lost units or if a Warrior unit is needed for the next 3 chapters. Unfortunately, Basilio's Resistance is quite low and will be problematic against the abundance of mage units in the last few chapters. Luckily, he has decent Speed and Skill stats and growths to compensate for this, but he should remain vigilant towards magic users, especially with Wind Mages on higher difficulties. Luckily, though, Basilio gains a boost in base stats depending on the difficulty played. It is also worth mentioning that Basilio, if maxed out, will have higher Defense and Resistance by one point than Vaike's.
Overall, Basilio is a great late-game addition to use, but Vaike, with decent training, usage, and time, will most likely be much better than he is by the time of his recruitment.
Basilio's base comes from the Fighter class, giving him Zeal and HP +5. He will only have Rally Strength upon his recruitment, but training him five more levels will give him Counter, which, on higher difficulties, is a great skill against Hawkeye units. Having Fighter as his base also gives him access to the Hero class. Sol is an excellent attacking skill for Basilio to use over Luna if regeneration is preferred over raw damage. Basilio's high Strength base and growth will give him a decent amount of HP regeneration upon usage, assuming he isn't challenging Knights or Sorcerers. Axebreaker can also be considered if he is to be a unit killer, mostly Wyvern Units and fellow Fighter/Barbarian base units.
Reclassing
Basilio's two base classes are the Barbarian and Knight lines. Barbarian keeps him close to home by giving him Gamble, and Berserker gives him Axefaire and Wrath. Basilio makes an excellent Berserker given his high Speed and Strength growths, but with lower Skill and a Defense and Resistance drop, the player may be deterred by the much lower caps. Nevertheless, even if Basilio does not remain in this class, spending some time in it will work to his benefit.
The Knight line works great for Basilio, but his low Resistance problem continues in this class. Nevertheless, Basilio can find some skills to grab from this class and its promotions. General gives him Pavise, which will shave damage from direct weapons, which, given his high Skill as a Warrior, makes him much tankier. Great Knight gives him Luna, which, as mentioned earlier, works great if raw damage is preferred over regeneration. Dual Guard+ can be useful when in a Pair Up with his two main supports: Robin or Flavia.

Basilio is the West-Khan of Regna Ferox, a nation with a powerful military. Though his flippant personality often makes the first impression, he's an accomplished warrior who was forged in the fires of battle!
|
Ferox is an unusual nation ruled by two khans who reside in castles in the east and west of the land. The East-Khan, by the way, is a woman by the name of Flavia.
|
Basilio was once a pirate, but his prowess as a warrior enabled him to defeat the previous khan and claim his title. That's one way to climb the ranks!
|
The culture of Ferox prizes martial skill, and sure enough, Basilio has a great respect for strong Heroes. I expect that'll make him a big fan of the Order of Heroes, then!

Possible Endings
- Basilio - Intrepid Khan
- With Grima a done deed, Basilio returned to Ferox and applied himself to dethroning Flavia. If his army of champions failed, he knew he could always wait for little Lucina to grow up (and lend her a mask).
- Basilio and Robin
- Many wrote of Robin's legendary exploits, but accounts of her origins and character varied. Scholars, poets, and bards agreed on one thing alone—she loved her husband, Basilio, above all else.

Etymology
The name Basil has origins from the male Greek name Vassilios. It is derived from "basileus", a Greek word meaning "king".
Trivia
- Basilio's official artwork depicts him wielding Titania's Axe.
- Oddly, while Basilio's eyepatch is traditionally on his left side in official art and for his character model, for his confession scene and map sprite, it is on his right side. This also occurs when his portrait faces to the left.
- Like Vaike, Basilio uses a larger model when in the Barbarian, Fighter, and Warrior classes. Additionally, Basilio is the only playable character to use the bulky appearance as a Berserker.
- Basilio shares his English voice actor, Patrick Seitz, with Laurent, Zeke, Hector, Draug, Garon, Brady (Heroes only), Jeritza, and Lambert.
- During his scripted battle with Walhart, both will perform a critical despite having a 0% possibility of performing one.
- His survival was foreshadowed by the lack of the specific echo accompanied by important deaths within Awakening, when Walhart struck him down.
